Teacher Toolbox

Here are twelve different "tools" or resources that I would find helpful as a teacher.
  • Noodletools This site shows how students can correctly cite their work.  This cite has MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian, and so on.  Citing work can be hard for students to figure out.  This tool guides students how to correctly format their bibliography or works cited.  Simply click on the NoodleBib Express, and it will ask questions about the source you are citing. And guide the student through a correctly formatted works cited.
  • http://teachershare.scholastic.com/ Sponsored by Scholastic, this allows teachers to share lesson plans and classroom resources.
  • Google Maps  When studying about a specific area in class, I can type in the location and bring an actual visual/photo of the location. For example if my students are studying Russian Literature, I can type in Moscow, and bring up pictures of the buildings and streets in Moscow, this allows students to connect to the literature on a new level.
  • http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/teach.jsp Resources for teachers
  • http://teachers.net/
  • Wordle I find this website particular helpful since I could make aesthetically pleasing posters or words, that I could decorate the classroom in, or design for a blog.
  • TED This website has a lot of videos that have relative lectures.  This is helpful when looking for media clips
  •  BBC  This website is BBC for school, and has a lot of information
  • Blogger Using blogs will help me communicate with my class, students, parents, faculty and administration
  • Edublogger This site has more professional teacher blogs, I would rather use an Edublog, instead of blogger when I am in a classroom.  There are more things I can do with my page, better features, easy and safe.
  • Wikkispaces This can be an effective way to meet with students, although anyone can alter a Wiki.
  • Poets.org If I need information on a poet, or my students are researching a certain poet, this has reliable information
  • Poetry.com If students need to find a famous poem, this website is reliable to find almost any published poem.
  • Youtube.com I can find media clips that are useful and relative to lessons in class. such as famous speeches, or movie clips, etc.
  • Vocaroo  This is my favorite Podcasting site, it allows easy recording, without any additional downloads or set ups, and the podcast can be posted to any blog or Wiki, that allows easy access for students to listen.  I can podcast important lessons or lectures for students who might have missed class, or need help remember what was covered.
  • http://jobs.teachers.net/Teachers/ViewAllPostings/tabid/104/Default.aspx  Job postings for teachers. For the prospective teacher.
